It has been over 70 years since construction started on SMEC’s namesake project, the iconic Snowy Mountains Hydroelectric Scheme, in 1949. Today SMEC is a global engineering, management and development consultancy delivering advanced transport, renewable energy, water and urban development solutions for our clients, partners and communities. We are committed to having a meaningful impact on our people, the environment, and the clients and communities we serve and believe that a focus on sustainability must underpin everything we do.

Locally, SMEC opened our original Wollongong office in 2014. We moved to our new office in 2019, and we continue to grow.

Since 2014 we have actively partnered with local industry leaders including Engineers Australia and the University of Wollongong – the source of our brains trust. We have had many local successes in recent years, including key design and investigation roles on major projects such as the Gerringong Upgrade, Foxground and Berry Bypass, Albion Park Rail Bypass, Wongawilli Road Upgrade, West Dapto Road Upgrade, Northcliffe Drive Extension, No. 6 Blast Furnace Reline, Kembla Grange Residential Estate in West Dapto, Wilton East Residential Estate, Port Kembla Outer Harbour Reclamation Design, Warilla Beach Coastal Remediation and designs for several local Landfills. In addition to our design capabilities, we have a practical edge: we partner with you through the construction phase to ensure the successful delivery of your projects.

We will continue to work closely with the Illawarra community to deliver major infrastructure, urban and energy projects.
