‘Meet the Board’ with Florentino Chicharo
Florentino Chicharo is the CEO of Globetech, and is a qualified Electrical Engineering (BE Eng), having worked his professional life in heavy industry. He brings his extensive knowledge of industry and a real passion for the i3net network and the region. Florentino has been an active i3net member for many years and was appointed to the board at the the end of 2022. His focus will be on growing i3net’s membership base and partnerships.
Why did you want to join the i3net Board?
I wanted to be involved with i3net because it plays such an important role in promoting the regions industry and skills. i3net is a self-funded and independent organisation, representing it members, this makes it unique. To contribute my years of experience and give something back to local industry. To assist companies to work collaboratively and promote the great skills and people that we have in the region. To continue to strengthen and support a diversified local business base, so the Illawarra continues to be a great place to live and work for future generations.
What is your background/expertise?
I commenced my working career as an apprentice/trainee for a local manufacturing company, who mentored and assisted me in obtaining a Degree in Electrical Engineer from UOW. I have worked on many industrial and manufacturing projects, focusing on Automation and Electrification design and delivery. Managed many large projects, in Australia and overseas, across a number of industries, such a metals, mining, food and beverage, water and infrastructure. I am the CEO of the Globetech group of companies and can bring business skills to the table.
What are 3 key skills you bring to i3net?
Strategic planning/implementation, leadership, industry and commercial awareness.
What makes you proud of i3net?
The way i3net brings business, industry and government into one room, to have the discussions that results in better outcomes for all. The strong members, leadership of the group, a wiliness and the tenacity to make positive changes.
What is something that most people don’t know about you?
Fear of heights.
What do you hope to achieve during your term on the board?
To continue the great work of past and current board members. To assist i3net grow in reputation and size. For i3net to be relevant and to successfully engage with investors, business leaders and government to bring new tangible opportunities to the region as well as to create opportunities outside the Illawarra for its members.
