Illawarra Industry leaders gather to discuss major projects for the region
The Illawarra has an enviable pipeline of major projects coming up, including BlueScope’s No.6 Blast Furnace Reline at Port Kembla, South32 Dendrobium Mine Extension, Energy Australia’s Tallawarra B Project and the Port Kembla Energy Terminal.
i3net, Business Illawarra and Wollongong City Council partnered to co-design a Major Projects Round-table, held on Friday 5 August at Wollongong City Council bringing in the Illawarra’s major players for an important conversation discussing their major projects, timelines, procurement processes, challenges, and opportunities.
The meeting was opened by Lord Mayor Councillor Gordon Bradbery AM, and attended by BlueScope, South32, Clough, Squadron Energy, Ventia, Department of Regional NSW, TAFE, University of Wollongong, i3net, Business Illawarra, KPMG and Wollongong City Council and it was a productive and thought-provoking discussion. The session was closed by Adam Zarth, Executive Director of Business Illawarra.
The goal is to ensure as much of the project expenditure as possible remains in the Illawarra and ensure the success of these projects and for the region.
i3net CEO, Bianca Perry
The session was facilitated by David Apolo, Partner, KPMG, and focussed on tangible outcomes and clear benefits for participants. Learning the key timelines for all projects across the region, resource requirements, pain points and what support is needed, it became evident that a coordinated approach is required to achieve success for all.
By working together we ensure the region and its people would leverage the very best of all the opportunities now and into the future.
i3net CEO, Bianca Perry
This Round-table was the first in a series of discussions that will take place to ensure the momentum of these important conversations continue. Outcomes will be shared with the i3net membership to ensure our members and the region benefits from the investment in the Illawarra.
