2016 i3net Update…
The past year has been very productive for the i3net as we settle down after a period of change. Our main focus during the last 12 months has been one of business development and since last year’s Showcase we have conducted site visits to ANSTO and the Heron Resources Woodlawn Mine Project. We have received presentations from KEPCO regarding the Bylong Coal Mine and DCNS regarding the SEA 1000 Future Submarines. We have collaborated with Advantage Wollongong, holding a Defence Industry Forum in July and we received an economic update from Craig James of CommSec and David Bell of BlueScope, showing the future is starting to look more positive.
This year the i3net provided a ‘Bid Management Masterclass’ at a heavily subsidised rate thanks to funding provided by the NSW Office of Regional development. This training proved very popular with members and was sold out within a week. A second session is planned for May 2017 and the i3net will continue to seek opportunities to provide relevant training that improves the skills of member companies.
The 2017 Industry Showcase attracted delegates from ANSTO, Navantia Australia, Remondis, Vopac Terminals, KEPCO Australia, Worley Parsons, Snowy Hydro Limited, Sydney Trains, The NSW Department of Minerals and the Defence Material Technology Centre (DMTC). Based on the feedback received from members, partners and delegates alike, the 2017 Showcase was extremely beneficial with a number of members reporting orders from delegates post the event.
One area of focus for the Network during 2016 was the $195billion of Defence work announced by the Federal Government and the i3net will continue to focus its efforts in this sector with the new ‘Centre for Defence Industry Capability’ preparing to present to members at an Industry Breakfast in February 2017.
The last twelve months has seen the addition of new members and new corporate partners, which has set the foundation for a sustainable future for the Network.
The i3net continues to work hard to identify business opportunities for our members and we are looking forward to an industrious and positive 2017.
